9-Month-Old Boy Dies Of Injuries At Virginia Hospital, 13-Year-Old Relative Charged With Murder
A 13-year-old girl in Norfolk, Virginia, was charged with the murder of an infant relative, months after the baby’s death.
In a press release, the city’s police department said officers responded to Children’s Hospital of the King's Daughters on Dec.19, 2019 after receiving a report about the hospitalization of an injured infant boy. Despite best efforts by the doctors, the nine-month-old boy succumbed to injuries 10 days later after failing to respond to the treatment.
The body was sent for autopsy following which the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk ruled the death of the infant as a homicide. Investigation concluded that the infant was injured by his teen relative. Following the investigation, the 13-year-old girl was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder on Thursday (May 7). The accused, whose identity was not revealed, was currently being held at the Norfolk Juvenile Detention Home.
Additional details regarding nature of the injuries were not revealed.

The incident comes days after a Michigan woman was charged with the murder of her three-year-old son. Police responded to a home and found the boy dead in a bedroom with a stab wound to his chest. Investigation revealed that he lived with his mother, who was last seen five days before the body was found. A search was launched for the mother, who was later taken into custody from a hotel in a different city. Autopsy revealed that the boy died from multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma injuries. Following this, the mother was charged with premeditated murder, murder, child abuse and torture.
In another incident last month, a Florida woman was arrested for fatally shooting her infant son. A crew of workers alerted the police after seeing a woman standing outside a pickup truck with a gunshot wound. The officers found the woman's infant son inside the truck. The boy, who was shot in the chest, was pronounced dead. The mother was charged with first-degree premeditated murder.
