A 9-year-old boy fatally shot an 11-year-boy Sunday after the younger child allegedly found a handgun in a vehicle in which they were left alone.
A 32-year-old unidentified woman, who was in charge of the children, parked the vehicle at around 12:41 p.m. ET at the Walmart grocery store at 2827 S. Buckner Boulevard in Dallas and went shopping, leaving the juveniles alone, ABC 8 reported, citing Dallas police.
Police said the children weren’t related to each other. Cops believe the 9-year-old found the loaded gun in the car, News 4 San Antonio reported. The victim was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. It was also not clear how the woman was related to the boys.
The 11-year-old boy’s mother, Keyamber Matlock, identified him as Dazmon Brown Jr., according to Dallas News. Matlock told KDFW-TV that the younger child who shot Brown happened to be the sibling of Brown’s friend, also 11, who was present at the scene. Matlock told the station that the 32-year-old woman was the friend’s mother.
"The youngest brother I guess ended up getting it off the safety and shot my child in his head," Matlock told KDFW.
The police haven’t made any arrests in connection with the incident yet.

The siblings were reportedly playing on a trampoline and the younger child found the gun in a nearby wooded area. The child then accidentally discharged the gun thinking it to be a toy.
