‘90 Day Fiancé’ Cast Update: Ashley Claims Jay Caused Depression Before Rehab
“90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?” Season 4 couple Ashley Martson and Jay Smith’s marriage may be over, but it doesn’t mean they have forgotten about the relationship they once shared. Although the two appear to be mending their romance on the TLC series, off-screen, Ashley plans to check into rehab and claims Jay is partially responsible for her decision.
Ashley and Jay’s relationship began to fall apart a few days after their wedding when Ashley learned Jay was talking to females on a dating app. After trying to make their relationship work, Ashley ultimately decided to file for divorce.
According to E! News, Ashley will enter rehab to seek help for depression. “A lot of me deciding to seek inpatient help had to do with Jay, but I was kidnapped and raped in 2005,” the TLC told the outlet.
“I am always in fight or flight mode, I am always on edge and I have never ever gone to therapy over it.”
Although she has struggled to cope with her assault, Ashley claimed she didn’t consider treatment until her marriage fell apart. “I don’t think I actually felt depressed until my divorce with Jay. I have never dealt with anything like I have been feeling right now, with Jay,” she shared.
“Jay wants to work things out, but I am not interested at this point,” she added.
Ashely’s goal is to get help for her PTSD and learn how to deal with her relationships. “I am trying to cope and move on from what I thought was going to be the marriage of a lifetime, and it’s not.”
For now, Ashley wants to deal with her past so she can focus on moving forward. “I realized after three failed relationships, that it’s not all of them, and I need to work on myself,” she explained.
“And I realize all of my failed relationships do go back to what happened when I was 19. And it's time I deal with it,” Ashley added.
“90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?” Season 4 airs Sundays at 8 p.m. EDT on TLC.
