ABC’s ‘Somewhere Between’ Premieres With Low Ratings; Is An Early Cancellation Possible?
Paula Patton’s new ABC series, “Somewhere Between,” did not fare well in terms of ratings and reviews on its second week.
According to TV Line, the series only garnered a total of 1.76 million viewers and a 0.3 demo rating. These figures are down compared to last week’s “Bachelorette”-boosted premiere episode. Additionally, the ratings for “Somewhere Between” are much lower than the reruns of some ABC’s shows, such as “The Middle,” “Fresh Off the Boat” and “Black-ish.” Readers of the publication also gave the series an average grade of C+.

In the series, Patton plays the role of Laura Price, a doting mom to her daughter, Serena (Aria Birch). Laura finds out that her daughter will soon be murdered, but she has no idea who the killer is and what his or her motivations are. But Laura will do everything in her power to make sure that Serena’s ill fate won’t be sealed. However, she soon comes to realize that everything she does just leads Serena directly to the person responsible for taking her life.
According to Deadline, “Somewhere Between” received a straight to series order from ABC and will have a total of 10 episodes for Season 1. The publication noted that the network didn’t have an original scripted drama series lined up this summer since “Mistresses” has already been canceled. This is why they decided to give “Somewhere Between” the green light.
However, the ratings for the new show haven’t been impressive for the past two weeks, and there are rumors that an early cancellation could be possible. ABC already axed several of its shows primarily due to low ratings. “American Crime” did not make it past Season 3. Shonda Rhimes’ “The Catch,” which starred Mireille Enos, only aired on the network for two seasons. ABC’s eight-episode sitcom, “Downward Dog,” was also canceled after one season. Just like “Downward Dog,” “Conviction” and “Imaginary Mary” were also axed by ABC after Season 1. Additionally, Ken Jeong’s hilarious sitcom aired for two seasons, but ABC decided not to renew it for Season 3.
“Somewhere Between” airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
