Activision Adding Dark Edition Of 'Skylanders: Super Chargers’
The “Skylanders” franchise is being upgraded with the release of “Skylanders: Super Chargers,” which will make the game more appealing to children. Now, Activision also plans to release “Skylanders: Super Chargers Dark Edition," a title for older players that features darker versions of the game's well-known characters.
Kotaku found some differences in the Dark Edition set, aside from the black and gray color scheme. The set will come with four characters instead of the usual three from previous “Skylanders: Super Chargers” games. These characters include Dark Spitfire, Dark Hot Streak and Dark Super Shot Stealth Elf, as well as the Dark Sea Shadow.
Fans will be happy to see that a Kaos Trophy has been added to the Dark Edition set. It will unlock exclusive in-game content, giving fans young and old a distinct advantage over the enemies of the game. The set will cost $99.99, which is $15 more than the regular starter pack, but it comes with an extra toy and trophy.
However, there may be a problem those who like to collect the Amiibo statues that Nintendo regularly trucks out. The Dark Edition for Nintendo's Wii and Wii U systems will have one exclusive Amiibo each that can’t be purchased anywhere else. The Wii U version gets Dark Turbo Charge Donkey Kong, while the Wii version gets Dark Hammer Slam Bowser.
This could be considered troubling for Amiibo collectors, as Destructoid points out, because they will have to buy two different sets in order to get these exclusive Dark Amiibo statues of Donkey Kong and Bowser. Hardcore collectors will have to buy the Wii, Wii U and any other dark set to complete the Amiibos, which could get expensive.
“Skylanders: Super Chargers” will be coming to a variety of platforms on Sept. 20, with the Dark Edition coming out around the same time. Hardcore Amiibo collectors will need to save up their money.
