Adele advised to stop singing for one month
Adele, the Grammy award winner singer and song writer, has been advised by doctors to stop singing and talking for at least a month in order to recover from acute laryngitis.
The Someone like You singer has already been forced to postpone her American tour due to the illness and it seems she may have to cancel the tour if she does not rest her voice, reports Digitalspy.com.
Adele is a smoker and apparently she cannot quit the habit . Adele is currently at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a sixth week with Rolling in the Deep.
Adele wrote on her website: There is absolutely nothing I can do but take the doctors' advice and rest some more. The doctors are scared that she may do permanent damage to her voice if she does not stop stressing her voice.
Adele is a part of the new crop of British female singers who have made it big in the music world along with Amy Winehouse, Katy Perry, and Duffy. Amy Winehouse was booed off the stage in Belgrade recently and has abandoned her European tour due to erratic behavior and drinking.
Adele too cut short her tour of America in 2008 due to excessive drinking and to be with her boyfriend. Fortunately, she has been able to kick off the habit, according to news reports.
Dubbed as a soul singer, Adele burst on the music scene in 2008 . Her debut album '19' was released then with XL Recordings. She entered the US market with Columbia Records and her album was certified a gold in 2009. It sold 2.2 million copies worldwide. The same year she won 2 Grammies for Best New Artist and best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 51st Grammy Awards (2009).
Her foray into the US initially did not go too well but an appearance on Saturday Night Live changed her fortune. She was paired with Sarah Palin on the show. SNL got its best viewers' rating in 14 years with 17 million viewers for that night. This stroke of luck catapulted Adele into the big league.
She performed her single Catching Pavements on the show and her album 19 topped the charts on iTunes the next day.
She released her second album 21 early this year. It has sold over a million copies already and it hit the top 200 chart of Billboard.
