Adidas and Allbirds have teamed up to create a new unique athletic shoe that only has a “2.94 kg CO2e” carbon footprint.

The footwear, dubbed Adizero x Allbirds 2.94 kg CO2e, is an example of “when competitors work together as collaborators,” allowing for the lowest carbon footprint shoe to date from both companies, CNN reports.

“We reduced, refined, and rethought every component from materials to manufacturing — minimizing emissions at every step without compromising function, performance, or style,” the Allbirds website says of the shoe.

The shoe, which retails for $120, is available in both men's and women's sizes in the same color and style. It has the Adidas and Allbirds symbol on the side of the shoe, along with the “2.94 kg CO2e” carbon footprint printed on the sole.

The upper part of the shoe is made of Allbirds eucalyptus tree fiber and PrimeGreen sustainable and recyclable materials from Adidas. The midsole of the shoe is made of Allbirds EVA SweetFoam and Adidas Lightstrike EVA. The lining, toe box, midfoot and heel reinforcements are made of recycled polyester embroidery, according to the shoe’s sustainable materials description.

All of the materials combined create a super lightweight shoe that is only 5.3 ounces.

Allbirds has been an athletic shoe company focused on sustainability since 2016. It entered into athletic wear in August 2021, making it a direct competitor with Adidas and other brands.
