‘Agents Of SHIELD’ Season 2 Spoilers: How ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Connects To Skye And Coulson
[SPOILER WARNING: Major spoilers for “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2, episode 9 are ahead!]
“Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2, episode 8 dropped some massive alien details. Whitehall spoke about “blue angels,” and that sounded familiar. We saw a blue alien corpse when Coulson stole the GH.325, and there was a photo of a blue arm in Agent Carter’s files during a flashback in the premiere. There were blue aliens in “Guardians Of The Galaxy,” including Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). Fans have speculated for months and now “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has confirmed that they’re dealing with Kree, TV Guide reports.
This doesn’t mean that “Guardians Of The Galaxy” crossovers are imminent. However, this marks the first major connection that “Guardians Of The Galaxy” has to other projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The team will figure out that they’re dealing with Kree in episode 9. It might not seem important to know the race of the alien that saved Coulson (Clark Gregg), but the Kree are important because they started the Inhumans. The name will definitely be familiar to Marvel moviegoers very soon, if it's not already. Marvel announced “Inhumans” as part of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie will come out in 2018, but it seems like the beginning of the story will take place on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 2 since Coulson is looking for a Kree city.
"Our people don't know anything about the Kree or that there's a planet full of them," executive producer Jeffrey Bell said. "What they do know is that the strange carvings created by Coulson after he was injected with the Kree serum are actually the map of a city, and they need to find that city before Hydra does. But where is it? Here or on another planet?"
They might not have to go as far as another planet. In the Marvel comics, the Kree experimented on humans and those test subjects went on to form their own society in their city Attilan, which would seemingly be the city that Coulson is now trying to find. Attilan has been relocated a few times and could easily be on Earth. However, the Kree and Inhumans aren’t just responsible for the city that Coulson is looking for. They’re likely responsible for the obelisk and Skye’s (Chloe Bennet) immunity to the GH.325.
"You'll find out that Skye and Raina have something in common — and it's not that they're brunettes," Bennet teased. "Some of our überfans think the two of them are aliens. Or maybe they're something else — something different and special. It's all leading to a reveal that's mother-effing crazy."
If Skye and Raina were Inhumans, it would explain Skye’s immunity to the serum as well as Raina’s ability to touch the obelisk. If the woman Whitehall killed in episode 8 is indeed Skye’s mother, she definitely is some sort of alien. As for if that woman was specifically an Inhuman, we’ll just have to keep watching.
“Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2 episode 9 airs Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC. Do you think Skye and Raina are Inhumans or is that too obvious? Sound off in the comments section below!
