“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has been on hiatus for a full year now, so it’s safe to say everyone needs a refresher. Luckily, there is a convenient recap with just the essentials below.

While a lot of details about last year’s villains are unimportant, fans will want to remember The Confederacy. The evil organization is an intergalactic alliance that was working with Hydra to get more Gravitonium in Season 5. They end up having to work with General Glen Talbot instead.

Talbot manages to become a supervillain after getting into some Gravitonium, and he is willing to destroy Chicago to find more. Melinda May wants to use the last bit of Centipede serum to save a dying Phil Coulson and get him to stop Talbot. Coulson doesn’t take the serum and instead gives Daisy the pep talk she needs to realize she has the power to take down Talbot without literally tearing the world apart.

Yet, he didn’t just give her a confidence boost. He also left her with the last dose of Centipede serum. She takes it to give her powers a boost, allowing her to quake Talbot up into space where he freezes and suffocates.

Without Centipede serum, however, Coulson is dying. May ends up taking him to Tahiti (for real this time) to live out his final days.

Unfortunately, that isn’t the only loss. While trying to help evacuate the city, Fitz was killed by falling rubble. Luckily, there’s a version of him that’s cryogenically frozen somewhere. At the beginning of the season, he’d put himself in stasis to meet up with his friends in the future and save them, and they traveled back to their present day together. Simmons plans to wake up her husband.

That mission won’t be simple, though. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 6 will pick up a year later. Simmons is still searching for her husband. Things have gone differently since they stopped the world from quaking apart, and now it’s unclear where his pod is located. They’re traveling through space to find him, but they still have to worry about avoiding the Confederacy.

There are new threats back on Earth too. Mack and the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are dealing with a new team of destructive villains — and one of them has Coulson’s face. Get more details on the season premiere.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 6 premieres Friday at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
