AirPods Max Too Expensive? Apple May Release Cheaper ‘Sport’ Version Soon, Report Says

Apple fans who are hoping to get the AirPods Max for a lower price might be able to grab one in the near future.

AppleTrack, a website that keeps track of leaks and rumors about the iPhone maker’s new and upcoming devices and products, noted that the company still hasn’t released one particular model that reliable leakers have spoken about in recent months.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and noted tipster Jon Prosser spoke about a “sport” variant of the AirPods Max way before the device was released. Both tipsters indicated that such a model was in the pipeline even before Apple revealed the device’s name. They called it the “AirPods Studio” at the time.

This particular model is said to feature lighter, breathable materials that could allow users to wear it during workouts or when they want to wear something that’s more sporty than luxurious.

AppleTrack noted that both of them also reported about certain AirPods Studio features that were cut in order to bring the AirPods Max into the market in time for Christmas and the Holidays. These features, such as interchangeable headbands and padding, as well as ear detection for “reversibility,” were removed so the premium headphones could come out the door before 2020 ends.

The leak monitoring site predicted that the physically lighter and sporty version of the AirPods Max might sell for $349.

Meanwhile, Apple’s AirPods Max embodies all of the portable audio technology lessons the company learned over the years through the AirPods, AirPods Pro and other audio accessories under its umbrella. It’s the first over-ear headphones in the “AirPods” brand and comes with the best quality sound, noise cancellation and all convenience features that Apple has to offer at the moment.

Despite the AirPods Max’s great-quality audio and superb convenience features, most consumers are not likely to purchase it due to its expensive $549 price tag. Some reviewers indicate that for the price, some consumers would be better off getting Sony’s legendary WH-1000XM4 or Bose’s Noise Canceling Headphones 700. Not only do these sound good, but they’re also cheaper by at least $200.
