An Alabama man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend in the buttocks, causing life-altering injuries.

The incident took place on Aug. 19 when St. Paul police responded to the 400 block of Minnehaha Avenue East after being notified about multiple reports of a shooting. Upon arriving at the scene, cops found a vehicle riddled with bullets with spent 9mm casings on the ground nearby, KSTP-TV reported, citing a criminal complaint.

Police soon learned that a 23-year-old woman was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound. When police spoke to the victim at the hospital, she told them that her ex-boyfriend, Fredrick Dewayne Davis, 30, had shot her.

The victim told cops that she was drinking with her neighbors at a porch when Davis approached them and started firing at one of the men. When the victim attempted to flee, Davis shot her as well. A witness told cops that the female victim told Davis, "Don't shoot," but Davis fired at close range and she fell to the ground. The bullet entered through her left buttock and exited through her right leg. The woman spent a few days at a hospital as her pelvic bone was fractured and she had to undergo surgery to have her bladder removed.

The victim told cops that she lived together with Davis for a few days before she asked him to move out in August.

The male victim, who was not injured, told police Davis accused him of stealing drugs and shot him while he was in his car.

Davis was charged with one count of felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon with substantial bodily harm and a second count of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, KTSP-TV reported. He is held on bail of $250,000.

In August 2019, a man in New York was arrested after he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend's current boyfriend following an argument. Damien Coleman, 27, was fatally injured in the shooting while his girlfriend, 26, who was not identified, sustained a gunshot wound in the left leg.
