Alec Baldwin Breaks SNL Hosting Record, Channels Rick Perry [VIDEO]
Alec Baldwin kicked off the 37th season of Saturday Night Live with a bang, by becoming the most frequent host of all time.
On Saturday's season premiere, Baldwin also channeled Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry, complete with do-over statements.
Rick Perry only listens to two people: Jesus Christ and Rachel Maddow, Baldwin said as the Texas governor.
In the cold opening, called Either the 7th or 8th GOP debate, Baldwin appeared on stage along with Jason Sudeikis as Mitt Romney, Kristin Wiig as Michelle Bachmann, Andy Samberg as Rick Santorum, Kenan Thompson as Hermain Cain and others. Bill Hader played debate moderator Shepard Smith.
During Baldwin's five-minute opening monologue, the 53-year-old was joined on stage by Steve Martin, who held the previous hosting title for his 15 appearances on the show (Baldwin's count is now at 16).
Tonight I am passing Steve Martin . . . now, I don't want to make a big deal about the record, it's not a competition. Because if it was, I won, said Baldwin, looking dapper in a suit and purple tie.
Well aren't we proud of ourselves . . . I'm just passing by the studio in full makeup, said Martin.
I heard you were breaking my hosting record. And while I'm happy for you, I just wanted to make sure that you were doing it without the use of steroids or performance enhancing drugs, he said, before requesting a urine sample from Baldwin with a team of scientists that included actor Seth Rogen.
Baldwin also had some words for the parent group One Million Moms. The AFA group recently lashed out at Ben & Jerry's new ice cream flavor, Schweddy Balls.
If you don't like 'Schweddy Balls,' Ben and Jerry's has a new ice cream flavor just for you. It's called, 'Go Fudge Yourself,' he said.
Baldwin's famous Pete Schweddy character appeared on SNL in 1998 during the Delicious Dish sketch with then regulars Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer.
On Saturday, Baldwin brought out his best Al Pacino and Tony Bennett impersonations, appeared on a sketch called Who's On Top and played a child psychologist on a date.
Baldwin next appears in the drama, Hick with Blake Lively, Chloe Grace Moretz and Juliette Lewis.
The sixth and possibly last season of 30 Rock is expected to premiere in 2012.
