Alexa Now Has Samuel L Jackson's Voice
KEY POINTS
- Amazon has launched its celebrity voice program
- Alexa-powered device users can now interact with Samuel L. Jackson
- He has two voice options: one with explicit language and one with clean language
Those who use Alexa-powered devices will now be able to “speak” with famous actor Samuel L. Jackson – or at least, listen to responses with voices that sound like his.
Amazon has launched its celebrity voice program and decided to start with the popular actor Samuel L. Jackson, The Verge reported. This means fans who liked Nick Fury in Disney's Marvel movies, or the many other characters the actor played, will be able to interact with Alexa and hear his voice in response.
Now, Alexa-powered device users will be able to ask Alexa for weather updates, traffic conditions and more, and expect Nick Fury to answer the inquiry. The feature doesn't automatically work, however; fans will have to pay $0.99 to get the Hollywood legend's voice, and then ask Alexa to “ask Samuel L. Jackson” to do something.
Here's how it works: first, users will need to enable the feature by telling the Alexa-powered device, “Alexa, introduce me to Samuel L. Jackson.” Next, users will need to choose whether they'd like Sam to speak using explicit language (like how he does in many of his movies), or not (which is the best choice for those with kids at home, especially if the kids like to use the Alexa-powered speaker).
Those who chose to let Sam speak using explicit language but change their mind can simply go the settings menu on the Alexa app, then toggle the switch to choose between clean, cuss-free language or explicit content.
Once that's done, users can start asking Alexa to ask Sam to do a lot of things. Users can have Sam wake them up at 8:00a.m. by saying “Alexa, ask Sam to wake me up at 8am.” Users can also ask Sam to sing a “happy birthday” song or a Christmas song by saying “Alexa, ask Sam to sing happy birthday” and so on.
Amazon clarified, however, that Sam cannot be asked to help with Shopping, lists, reminders or Skills. Sorry – users won't be able to ask Sam about things in the grocery store. Users, however, can ask Sam about his favorite roles in the movies, about his career, and even about the things he likes outside of his entertainment job.
