Justice Smith has announced that he is a “black queer man” in a new social media post about Black Lives Matter.

The “All the Bright Places” star took to social media after joining a protest in New Orleans on Friday (June 5) with his partner, actor Nicholas Ashe. They protested against police brutality and racial injustice following George Floyd’s death at the hands of officers.

In his post on Instagram, the “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” star slammed those who fought for Black Lives Matter but do no support the black people who belong to the LGBTQ+ community.

“As a black queer man myself, I was disappointed to see certain people eager to say Black Lives Matter, but hold their tongue when Trans/Queer was added,” he wrote.

“I want to reiterate this sentiment: if your revolution does not include Black Queer voices, it is anti-black. If your revolution is okay with letting black trans people like #TonyMcDade slip through the cracks in order to solely liberate black cishet men, it is anti-black,” he continued.

Smith likened it to pushing oneself through the door designed against them and shutting it behind them. He added that the revolution is not about making an appeal but demanding what is due to them from the beginning “which is the right to exist” and “to live and prosper in public” without the fear of persecution or threat of violence.

Aside from a video taken from the protest, he also shared snaps of him with Ashe. According to Smith, he included it to show some “black boy joy” and “black love.”

“You’ve been my rock and guiding light through all of this and I love you so much. I know that on the other side of this Is change, though the fight is far from over,” Smith’s message for Ashe read.

Many of his followers expressed their happiness and support for Smith after he came out as queer. In fact, many fans also took to Twitter to wish him and Ashe well.

“Justice Smith just came out as a queer man with his boyfriend and I couldn't be more proud of him. I love him and I wish him and his boyfriend all the love, happiness and positivity in this world. Love wins,” @artsdior wrote on Twitter.

“FINALLY A BLACK GAY COUPLE,” another commented.
