Alleged OnePlus 6T Box Reveals Oppo R17 Pro-Inspired Design
The OnePlus 6 is only nearly four months old, but an upgrade may already be on the way. A set of leaked images appear to show the alleged packaging of the OnePlus 6T and the upcoming handset seems to feature a “waterdrop” notch design.
The images of the alleged OnePlus 6T box were leaked on the Chinese social media website Weibo and were first spotted by Phone Arena. The packaging clearly shows the OnePlus 6T branding and it even comes with an illustration of what the phone will look like.
The illustration shows that the handset will have very minimal bezels on its side and a bit of a chin on the bottom of the display. The illustration also shows that the OnePlus 6T will have a “waterdrop” notch on top of its display. The design is very similar to the Oppo R17 Pro, which was announced last month.
OnePlus, Oppo and Vivo are all owned by the Chinese firm BBK Electronics. It isn’t really a huge surprise that OnePlus would use the design of an Oppo phone since something similar has already happened before. For example, the design of the OnePlus 6 is almost exactly the same as the Oppo R15 Pro.
Another thing that the OnePlus 6T packaging may have revealed is that the phone may be equipped with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Illustration for the handset shows a fingerprint icon at the bottom portion of the display. This is another feature that is already present on the Oppo R17 Pro.
If OnePlus is indeed copying most of the same features of the Oppo R17 Pro, then it’s easier to assume what the OnePlus 6T’s specs are. It’s likely that the OnePlus 6T will have 8GB of RAM and a 6.4-inch full HD+ AMOLED display. Since the 6T is another flagship, it will most certainly be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor.
The company could also go all-in with the cameras and put triple lenses on the back of the 6T like the R17 Pro. For the unaware, the Oppo R17 Pro comes with a 12-megapixel shooter with a variable aperture lens that can switch from f/2.4 to f/1.5 aperture. The secondary camera is a 20-megapixel shooter with an f/2.6 aperture lens, while the third camera is a time-of-flight (TOF) stereo camera that’s designed to measure depth and create bokeh effect and improve augmented reality.
Up front, the R17 Pro comes with an impressive 25-megapixel camera. It’s certainly possible the OnePlus 6T could have all of the aforesaid cameras, but there’s definitely a chance that OnePlus may just stick to using dual cameras on the back.
If OnePlus follows its typical yearly schedule, the OnePlus 6T might be announced in October then released in November. OnePlus hasn’t announced any press events for those months yet, but it did tease on Weibo that it will have something to announce on Jan. 15, 2019.
