Since 2015, Amazon decided not to sell the Apple TV on its site, and now the listing for the device has returned [9to5mac first spotted].

The return of the gadget suggests the Amazon video app will soon come to the Apple TV. During the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, Tim Cook announced the Apple TV hardware will support Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon had restrained from selling Apple TVs and releasing a video app to keep its Fire TV popular. Since the Apple TV had no Amazon app, Prime customers have to find other ways to view content on television, like using Roku and Fire TVs or by using AirPlay on their Apple device to project Amazon Prime Video onto a TV.

Amazon’s video app will be available to those who own generation two, three and four of the Apple TV, Amazon said on Twitter. The app should also work for the fifth generation Apple TV.

“You asked (a lot). We listened. Amazon Prime Video is coming to the TV App and all Apple TVs this year,” Amazon tweeted earlier this year.

Amazon and Apple had not revealed the exact date the app will be available for download on the device. A press release issued Sept. 19 only said the Amazon Prime Video app is “coming soon.” Meanwhile, BESTAppleTV.com said sources told them the app had been completed and that it could be released this week in tandem with Amazon’s debut of Thursday night National Football League games.

4K Apple TV On Amazon

The online retailer stopped carrying the Apple TV and Google Chromecast devices in 2015. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said at the time that the company wanted its customers to be able to watch Amazon video on devices sold by the online retailer itself. Neither Amazon or Apple had announced the Apple TV would return on Amazon.com after the announcement that an Amazon video app was coming to the Apple TV.

While Amazon has listed the 4K Apple TV, the device is currently out of stock. However, customers can still add the gadget to their carts and Amazon will shop it when it’s available.

Apple announced the 4K Apple TV this month during its keynote event. Besides 4K capabilities, the new Apple TV will include high dynamic range and Dolby Vision support. With the new Apple TV, 4K movies will have the same prices as HD movies. Customers who previously bought HD films can upgrade them to 4K for free. The device’s menus and screens are redesigned to take advantage of the 4K displays. The new Apple TV is powered by the Apple A10X processor, which is found in the iPad Pro.

The Apple TV was released last week and is priced at $179 for the 32GB version and $199 for the 64GB version.
