Is Amazon’s ‘Hanna’ Show Based On The Movie? Is It A Remake, Sequel?
Amazon Prime’s new TV show, “Hanna,” comes out on Friday, but it’s not going to be the first telling of the story.
While the series isn’t based on a book, it is based on the 2011 movie of the same name that starred Saoirse Ronan as the titular character. This time around, Esme Creed-Miles is taking on the role.
“In equal parts high-concept thriller and coming-of-age drama, ‘Hanna’ follows the journey of an extraordinary young girl raised in the forest, as she evades the relentless pursuit of an off-book CIA agent and tries to unearth the truth behind who she is,” the synopsis of the Amazon series reveals.
It’s not a sequel or prequel of the movie but instead a remake or reboot of sorts. According to Collider’s interview with show creator David Farr, who wrote the original film, the new version will “start a bit far in the past but then we join the series where the film began, but it ends way beyond where the film goes.”
Viewers who’ve already watched the movie will realize while watching the show that after episode 2 the story’s completely new. “I thought that was very important,” Farr said. “This is a very different thing.”
Another reason Farr’s excited to tell the story of “Hanna” in the form of a show is that “television allows me to spend longer developing character, exploring character and delving into character.”
