Authorities are exploring the theory that the teacher may have known the perpetrator as there are no signs of forcible entry in her room. They also said they found signs of torture in the body of the murdered American teacher.

Officials say that the late Anton was working at the Mariposas Montessori in Cabarete as the elementary school’s curriculum program director. The late American teacher’s LinkedIn profile described the place as one of the Dominican Republic’s poorest communities.

Anton, who was 63 years old at the time of her death, used to work in Traverse City, Michigan, as an elementary school teacher. She had been living in the Caribbean island for the past 15 years and worked at Mariposas, a nearby private school, for the last six years.

Her Facebook friends fondly remember her as one who constantly posted photos of the Dominican Republic locals, its beaches, and flowers on social media. Her status updates also include words of endearment for her adopted country, her children, and past activities in the United States.

The tragic death of Anton deeply saddened her friends, as well as the parents of children that the American teacher taught. In an outpouring of grief, they stated that Anton is a veteran traveler who was deep concerns about the Dominican Republic and its people.

Demeter Russafov Dharma, a news contributor with the Dominican Today, said the late American teacher is among those whom anyone’s daughter would run to hug. He also said that Anton would always consider the kids like hers. Dharma also opined that it brings so much sadness and pain to him when he found out Anton’s life ended in a very cruel manner.

Another friend of Anton, Adrianne Machina from Wisconsin, commented that the teacher was a loving mother and friend, as well as a role model to everyone. She said Anton loved her adopted country and its people.

Machina went on to say that Anton possesses a heart of gold and would gladly help anyone. She also said that Anton was always conscious of her surroundings, being a seasoned traveler.

The body of the late American teacher has been sent to the city of Santiago De Los Caballeros to be examined by forensic scientists. Anton’s family members will be flying to the Caribbean island on Wednesday.
