‘America’s Got Talent’ 12: Mandy Harvey, Kechi Okwuchi Face Off In Semifinals

“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 will see Mandy Harvey and Kechi Okwuchi facing off against each other in the semifinals.

On Tuesday night, the two singers are expected to give their all in their performances in order to earn America’s votes and make it to the grand finals next week. During her audition in the hit NBC reality TV competition, Mandy won the hearts of the audiences and judges because of her angelic voice and touching story.

The 29-year-old became deaf at the age of 18 and thought that her dreams of becoming a singer have gone down the drain. But thanks to her supportive family and genuine love for music, Mandy decided to continue perfecting her craft. She is completely deaf, but manages to sing on key with the help of the vibrations she feels under her feet.

After singing an original song in her audition, Mandy received judge Simon Cowell’s golden buzzer. This gave her the opportunity to head straight to the quarterfinals. She also performed an original song in the said round and was one of the seven contestants who made it straight to the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Kechi’s powerful voice and inspiring story was what made her reach her dream of making it to the semifinals. The singer was the sole survivor of a plane crash when she was just a teenager. Her performances earned her standing ovations from Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel. But unlike Mandy, she did not receive the golden buzzer this season.

During her performance in the quarterfinals, Kechi broke down into tears after learning that she will be singing in the semifinals.

Mandy and Kechi will be joined by nine other contestants who are also hoping to make it to the next round. Wild card contestant The Pompeyo Family, dancers Merrick Hanna, Diavolo and Light Balance, young singers Celine Tam, Angelica Hale and Christian Guardino, mind reader Colin Cloud and military singing group In the Stairwell will be performing at the Dolby Theater on Tuesday night. Results will be revealed on Wednesday.

“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 will air at 9 p.m. EDT on NBC this week instead of 8 p.m. EDT.
