KEY POINTS

  • InnerSloth's "Among Us" is a very popular game among mobile and PC gamers
  • The game lets players take the role of a Crewmate or the deadly Impostor
  • A tech outlet looked into reasons why Crewmates tend to be easily defeated by Impostors

“Among Us” players know just how fun it is, especially when one is assigned the role of an Impostor. Conversely, taking on the role of a Crewmate is thrilling as gamers do their best to avoid being killed by the Impostor.

InnerSloth’s popular multiplayer game features mechanics that make for a fair game. Impostors, for example, have to wait before being allowed to kill a Crewmate. The Crewmates, meanwhile, can vote out who they think the Impostor is.

That said, why is it so easy for Impostors to win the game? ScreenRant took a good look at the game’s mechanics to see why Impostors can win over Crewmates very easily and found a few reasons why.

Abilities

Unlike Crewmates, Impostors have certain abilities that make it easy for them to prey upon the unsuspecting and even the suspecting. They can travel easily using vents and can sabotage the map from anywhere to set up instances where they can eliminate their targets.

Crewmates, on the other hand, really don't have special abilities.

The player factor

While Crewmates can do certain things to eliminate Impostors, such as voting them out, there’s the fact that players will need to think critically to know who the Impostor — or “Impostors” depending on the number set before a round — is.

When reporting dead bodies, for example, players have a limited amount of time to discuss the identity of the Impostor among themselves, adding more pressure to them as they try to make the right choice. And since the Impostor is also part of the discussion, they can sway opinions to a different direction to avoid being “sus” so that an innocent Crewmate will be ejected instead of them.

Furthermore, new players who are not yet used to the game’s mechanics will find it even more difficult to make correct guesses as to who the Impostor is.

The Impostor’s appeal

Players often want to be the Impostor more than they want to be a Crewmate, and it’s easy to understand why. The thing is, some players who are assigned the role of a Crewmate tend to disconnect themselves at the start of a round, making it easier for Impostors to pick remaining players off and harder for remaining Crewmates to survive a pro-level Impostor.

All that said, “Among Us” remains a very fun game that will just become better in time. InnerSloth promised to reveal something on Thursday, which means fans should be excited to see more in a couple of days.
