Anderson Cooper shared a hilarious story Thursday of how one of his son's playdates with Andy Cohen's child took a disastrous turn.
The CNN anchor and Bravo host are best friends, and their kids usually hang out together on weekends. During a guest appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," Cooper recalled the time Cohen's 2-year-old son Benjamin managed to get a hold of one of his 11-month-old son Wyatt's teddy bears during one of their playdates.
"My son hadn't even played with it, and all of a sudden there's this smell and some smoke," Anderson told host Jimmy Kimmel. "And we realized that Andy's son has taken my son's bear, put it in the microwave and turned it on. I mean, he baked the bear. It was in there for, like, 10 seconds and, literally, there was smoke coming out."
But the correspondent understands that children being experimental is part of growing up. "Kids do the darndest things," he added.
Cooper welcomed his son via surrogate in April 2020. He announced Wyatt's arrival on Instagram by sharing a series of photos of him cuddling the little one. He accompanied it with a message thanking everyone who made it possible for him to be a father.
"As a gay kid, I never thought it would be possible to have a child, and I’m grateful for all those who have paved the way, and for the doctors and nurses and everyone involved in my son's birth," he wrote.
At the time, reports said Cooper reunited with his boyfriend, Benjamin Maisani, after their 2018 split. But though they still live in the same house, Maisani and Cooper have not gotten back together.
In February, Cooper told Ellen DeGeneres when he appeared on the latter's show that Maisani still lives in his house and that they continue to raise Wyatt together.
"We actually still live in the same house because we get along really well," he told DeGeneres. "It's weird, but it works out."
Cooper shared that Maisani initially wasn't as enthusiastic as him about having a child. However, when Wyatt arrived, he said his ex-boyfriend turned into a "big softy" and has since become a great parent to their child.
"It was interesting, because he wasn't sure he wanted to have a kid, which is one of the reasons we probably broke up. He came around on the idea, and now, he's just such a great parent," Cooper said, praising his ex.
Cooper has no issue co-parenting thing with Maisani. However, he firmly shut down talks of a potential reconciliation.
