Android 4.0 ICS Updates For Bulk Of HTC Devices Coming In June And July, Rest To Be Covered By August [Complete List With Timeline]

After Motorola updated its timeline for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) updates for a number of devices last week, including the Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx that are expected to receive their ICS scoop before the end of the second quarter, HTC has also joined the party by announcing the schedules for all its announced devices for an OTA update of its own.

The Taiwan-based smartphone manufacturer has provided a complete list of devices on its website with timeline for receiving the updates. According to the company, the majority of devices will be getting the updates in June and July while the entire process of updating all the announced devices is expected to be finished in August.

However, due to partner and network testing and approval processes for device updates, it could take up to 45 days for all carriers and countries to get the update after a rollout has begun. In case any device doesn't receive the update after the 45-day period, users are recommended to navigate to Settings>About>Software Updates to have their device manually check for updates.

Apart from the DROID Incredible 2, which hasn't been given an ETA (To be determined by the end of August) as far as the ICS update is concerned, devices like the Amaze 4G, the EVO 4G+, the Sensation family (HTC Sensation, 4G, XE and XL), the Velocity 4G and the Vivid will get to taste the latest Android version by the end of June.

The devices that will be getting their ICS scoops by the end of July include the Desire S, the EVO 3D, the EVO Design 4G, the Incredible S, the Rezound and the Rhyme. On the other hand, two popular devices - the HTC ThunderBolt and the Desire HD - are expected to get the updates by the end of August.

Devices That Won't Get Android 4.0

According to HTC, devices that feature 512MB ROM or less will not be upgraded to Android 4.0. Some of those devices include the HTC ChaCha, HTC Salsa, HTC Wildfire S and HTC Explorer.

When it comes to tablets, devices like the HTC Flyer, HTC EVO View 4G and HTC Jetstream will remain on their current Android version (Honeycomb).

HTC clearly mentioned that not getting the ICS update doesn't mean that there won't be any other software related upgrades for all other devices. They will still get software improvements, security fixes, and technical support as needed.

The upgrade to Android 4.0 will include HTC Sense 3.6. Since HTC Sense 4 requires dedicated hardware, which is not available on all devices, it won't be included in Ice Cream Sandwich.
