Android O-Running Sony Xperia XZ1 Spotted In User Agent Profile
Sony appears to be working on a new handset for its Xperia series that will run Google’s upcoming Android O software out of the box. The device is rumored to debut with the name Xperia XZ1.
On Wednesday, Xperia Blog reported about the new discovery it made while viewing the official UAProf or User Agent Profile on Sony Mobile’s website. Apparently, the profile has data that appears to suggest the existence and imminent arrival of a Sony G83XX handset. What’s interesting about the phone is it has Android 8.0 or Android O preinstalled, suggesting that the device will be a flagship entry.
The official name of the device is still unknown, but it will most likely be the successor to the Xperia XZs (G82XX) and the Xperia XZ Premium (G81XX). The similarities in the model numbers suggest that the leaked phone will belong to the Xperia XZ line. PhoneArena claims that this could be the previously rumored Xperia XZ1, which is now expected to debut at IFA in Berlin this September.

According to previous rumors about the Xperia XZ1, the device is going to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor. It is also believed to come with 4GB of RAM and a 3,000mAh battery. Earlier speculative reports stated that the handset will come with a 5.2-inch full HD display. The recent leak actually includes an entry that says the G83XX phone sports a full HD screen. This bit further fuels the speculation that the G83XX device is none other than the XZ1.
Another information that was discovered in the leak is that the upcoming Android O-running phone will arrive in two variants. There is going to be a single-SIM variant, which has the model number G8341. Then, there’s the dual-SIM variant that has G8342 as its model code.
Aside from the rumored XZ1, Sony is also believed to be working on a couple more devices that will be released this year. Some sources claim that there will be a Compact version of the XZ1. There’s also mention of an Xperia X1-named handset that will serve as the successor to last year’s Xperia X.

Speaking of the Xperia X1, there are some details found in the User Agent Profile that seem to back the existence of this device. A phone with the model number G34XX was uncovered from the profile. This handset has six variants, and three of which are single-SIM models. It is said to be a mid-ranger with a full HD display. Xperia Blog also pointed out in a separate report that the phone is being tested on Android Nougat instead of Android O.
It’s not clear if all of these smartphones will be showcased by Sony at IFA. Meanwhile, Google is reportedly preparing for the release of Android O this August. The new mobile OS could arrive in the first or second week of the month. As of late though, there is still no information about its official name. Many are saying however that the O could stand for Oreo.
