KEY POINTS

  • Andy Cohen regretted the way he handled one segment in part two of the "RHOBH" Season 12 reunion
  • He claimed he has talked to Garcelle Beauvais and had a "good, productive conversation" with her
  • Cohen seemingly ignored Beauvais' feelings when her co-stars talked about throwing Beauvais' memoir in the trash

Andy Cohen is sorry for the way he treated Garcelle Beauvais during the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" Season 12 reunion.

On Monday's episode of SiriusXM's "Radio Andy," Cohen issued a public apology to Beauvais for the insensitivity he displayed toward her while they were discussing her memoir being thrown in the trash during the second installment of the "RHOBH" reunion, which aired last Wednesday night.

"I need to really sincerely apologize not only for diverting the topic but for not returning — even worse — to the serious conversation that was at hand," Cohen, 54, was quoted by Page Six as saying. "I have deep admiration for Garcelle."

He went on to claim that he has since talked to the "Coming 2 America" star and that they "had a really good, productive conversation last Thursday" about him sidelining her in favor of frenemies Lisa Rinna and Erika Jayne.

"I should have been more in tune with her feelings," Cohen, who was aware of the online backlash he received for his performance, continued. "I just wanted to say that because I've been logging in and I get it."

Beauvais has not yet publicly responded to Cohen's apology.

During the last week's broadcast, Rinna, 59, confessed that she had tossed Beauvais' memoir, "Love Me as I Am," in the trash earlier this year — not Jayne, 51, who had previously taken credit.

Cohen, who hosted the reunion special, laughed with Rinna and Jayne and joked about recycling instead of checking on a visibly upset Beauvais.

Viewers immediately took to social media to express their dismay and disappointment with the way Cohen handled the matter. Some even accused him of favoritism and urged Bravo to find a new host.

"I am disappointed in your treatment of Garcelle during Reunion #2. You joined Rinna and Erika [in] laughing about throwing her book in the trash and joking about recycling instead of addressing the real issue. That was so disrespectful of Garcelle's feelings," one person commented.

"Bravo, please get another host for the reunions. Andy Cohen isn't even trying to hide his favoritism anymore. And the way he treated Garcelle was absolutely disgusting. Please get an unbiased host!" another Twitter user wrote.

"Let's see Garcelle throw Rinna's lipstick and Erika's plastic hair in the garbage, which [are] their rightful place btw. Let's see how they like it, and watch Andy roast Garcelle about it. It's not about color here, it's disrespectful and hypocritical," a third user opined.

After Cohen publicly apologized to Beauvais, some Bravo fans praised him for not staying silent following the criticism of his behavior.

"Than[k] God Andy apologized to Garcelle. That was so rude and so insensitive," one wrote.

Another added, "Glad he publicly apologized and privately. I just think he always has to do it publicly when he gets backlash and the cycle continues. His insensitivity isn't general, it's always towards certain people that he doesn't consider his faves."

"He said he was sincerely sorry and had a conversation with Garcelle. He obviously didn't know how it looked until it aired. He's taking accountability. I mean, what else can we ask of people? If Garcelle is OK with him, then that's all that matters here. She's no fool," a third person added.

Part three of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" Season 12 reunion will air on Bravo at 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday.
