Angelina Jolie is using her platform to highlight the plight of a struggling Afghan woman.

On Saturday, the "Maleficent" actress shared on Instagram a letter she received from a young woman in Afghanistan. The 46-year-old star blurred out parts of the letter to protect the identity of the sender.

In the caption of the post, Jolie said the young woman who sent her the letter has not been able to go back to school since the Taliban seized power in the country.

She noted that women in Afghanistan are "being arrested simply for taking part in peaceful protests and that the letter's sender fears she "might never be able to go outside again or even be able to speak as I am a girl."

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees special envoy went on to share another excerpt from the unidentified young woman's letter.

"I feel like women don't have any right to speak or put their word forward. The rights of the woman are taken away from them, and they are not allowed to do anything in the country," the letter read.

The Afghan woman then detailed an instance from a "few weeks back when the Taliban arrested two of the women who raised their voices in order to ask for the rights of woman and freedom."

The young woman wrote that this incident left her shocked and dismayed and led her to think that "this is the end."

In a passionate plea, Jolie encouraged her followers to "please track what is happening in Afghanistan," where she said young women "are being taken from their homes at night at gunpoint and disappeared" and "new restrictions are being imposed on the freedom of women and girls day by day."

"Please help ensure they're not forgotten," Jolie concluded her post.

The actress also highlighted women's rights activists who are "missing" in Afghanistan, including Alia Azizi, Parwana Ibrahimkhel, Mursal Ayar, Zahra Mohammadi and Tamana Zaryab Paryani and her three sisters.

This was not the first time Jolie had used her platform to raise the voice of a struggling young woman in Afghanistan. The "Eternals" star joined Instagram in August 2021 to call attention to the atrocities being committed in the country after the Taliban's rapid takeover.

In her first post on the social media platform, Jolie shared a picture of a handwritten letter that she received from a teenage Afghan girl.

Jolie wrote in the caption that the people of Afghanistan were "losing their ability to communicate on social media and to express themselves freely." She explained that she joined the social media site "to share their stories and the voice of those across the globe who are fighting for their basic human rights."

Jolie broke records after joining Instagram. She surpassed Rupert Grint and Sir David Attenborough when she attracted 2.1 million followers in under three hours. Currently, she has 12.2 million followers and counting.
