Another Tourist Death In The Dominican Republic: Barbara Corcoran's Brother Found Dead

Barbara Corcoran, businesswoman and “Shark Tank” investor, recently revealed that her brother mysteriously died at a resort in the Dominican Republic, making him the seventh tourist to die in the country under mysterious circumstances.

Her brother, John Corcoran, was a retiree who owned a roofing company based in New Jersey. He was reportedly vacationing in the island last April when a friend of his found him unresponsive in his hotel room.

The “Shark Tank” star said that her brother was on his yearly vacation when he died of a heart attack. As far as Corcoran knows, there’s been no autopsy. Corcoran stated that her brother’s friend discovered the body, but no one knows exactly what happened.

Corcoran told TMZ that John was her favorite brother among her 9 siblings and that he had a larger-than-life personality and would have done great on TV.

TMZ reported that John loved visiting the Dominican Republic and that he was awaiting the arrival of his girlfriend before he died. There has been no funeral as of yet, but a memorial service is being planned.

John Corcoran was 60 years old when he died. But while it may not be shocking to hear of a 60-year-old dying of a heart attack, his death happened in the midst of a bizarre and troubling trend of American tourists dying mysteriously in resorts in the Dominican Republic.

John Corcoran's death is another in a string of mysterious deaths that have been happening in the Dominican Republic lately. As of now, 6 American tourists have died under mysterious circumstances in the Dominican Republic, with each death weirder than the last. Speculations about what’s happening in the Dominican Republic range from poisoning—fueled by two couples who stayed at the Bahia Principe resorts and suddenly became violently ill—to a fake liquor epidemic like the one in Mexico.

One couple claimed that there was a “moldy, mildewy smell” in their room like the air conditioning hadn’t been cleaned, and another couple is suing the resort chain claiming they were exposed to harsh chemicals found in insecticides.

It is unclear at this time which hotel Barbara’s brother was staying, or if he had anything to drink from his room’s minibar—an activity that links the mysterious deaths together.
