'Ant-Man's' Scenes Were Improvised To Make Them Funny: Michael Peña
Michael Peña And David Dastmalchian will be seen playing thieves and friends to Paul Rudd’s character, Scott Lang, in “Ant-Man.” The two actors recently spoke to Screen Rant about their experience while shooting for the film.
“You always know that you’re doing a Marvel movie, but then to have fun on set doesn’t always translate into good moments onscreen or good scenes. And this one, you know, you just had to trust Peyton [Reed]. You had to trust Paul because he rewrote a lot of the script,” said Peña.
He added that most of the scenes were “improvised” to make them funny. Dastmalchian said he was nervous to work with the actors and directors he has always admired. However, he felt at ease as soon as he started filming. “The tone was pretty apparent from the beginning forward, and it was on set and off, there were a lot of laughs on this film. And that made me feel really good,” he said.
In the film, Peña plays Luis and Dastmalchian plays Kurt. They both are the members of Lang’s heist team. They commit petty crimes with Lang and will support him after he turns into Ant-Man.
“Ant-Man” centers on Lang, who accidently stumbles upon an Ant-Man suit created by Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). Pym and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) train him to use the suit. Reed directed the film from the screenplay by Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, Adam McKay and Rudd. The cast includes Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Tip "T.I." Harris, Wood Harris and Judy Greer. It opens on Friday.
