Former Rep. Anthony Weiner is officially running for mayor of New York City after posting a new campaign ad to his website on Tuesday. When he was forced out of Congress two years ago after sending lewd photos of himself to women via Twitter, it was assumed his political career was over but now he's seeking a comeback.

“I’m running for mayor ’cause I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it my entire life. And I hope I get a second chance to work for you,” Weiner said in the two-minute, 16-second YouTube video.

Weiner, 48, resigned from the U.S. House in 2011 after underwear-clad photos of himself that he sent to women via Twitter became public. Politicker.com said Weiner has been plotting his comeback for months. His wife, Huma Abedin, a former top aide to Hillary Clinton, has stood by her husband's side and makes an appearance in the video along with their young son.

In the video, Weiner makes a direct appeal for a second chance. “Look, I made some big mistakes. And I know I let a lot of people down. But I’ve also learned some tough lessons,” he said.

His wife chimes in, "We love this city and no one will work harder to make it better than Anthony.”

The couple has appeared in a New York Times magazine feature article, and Weiner recently returned to Twitter and has been sending out links to his 64-point plan to help the city's middle class. He has hired Danny Kedem, a Democrat strategist who has run campaigns for Congress, to manage his fresh mayoral bid. Weiner, who lost the Democratic nomination for mayor in 2005, has about $4 million in campaign cash left from then that can be used for this year's race.
