  • Klopp has said he expects Man City, Utd, and Chelsea to challenge Liverpool for title
  • Klopp's side recently were crowned 2019-20 Premier League champions
  • They sealed the title with seven games to spare

Jurgen Klopp has insisted that the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea will challenge Liverpool FC for the Premier League title next season.

A total of 23 points clear on the top of the table, Liverpool have secured the 2019-20 Premier League title with seven games to spare. It is their first league title in 30 long years and their first-ever Premier League trophy. When Chelsea defeated Man City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, the result sealed the title race mathematically and made Klopp the first German manager to win the prestigious top-flight league in England.

Liverpool’s next outing in the Premier League is their trip to Manchester, where they’ll get a guard of honor at Etihad Stadium from last season’s champions.

Ahead of Liverpool’s game against Man City, Klopp was asked if Pep Guardiola and Co. will remain Liverpool’s closest competitors for the next campaign. He replied, "Yes, City will be strong next season, United will be strong next season, Chelsea will be strong next season."

"They all will be strong next season. Out of the three of them, it’s obvious City is just an outstanding team. United are in outstanding shape and Chelsea are in really good shape and doing some interesting business. Tottenham will not sleep, Arsenal will not sleep – they’ll come. Leicester will be there.”

Klopp, who has won four trophies with Liverpool since his appointment as the Reds manager in 2015, has also insisted that Liverpool “won’t defend the title next year but we will attack the next one”.

“The thing is we have to play 38 games during a year and it’s who wins most of them [who will] win the league. We will not defend the title next year, we will attack the next one. That will be difficult enough. What we achieved last year, in this case, last week, is something for the history books,” added Klopp in the same interview.

When asked if he was pleased that his side will receive a guard of honor from Man City, Klopp said, “I'm not sure if I ever got one. I don’t know if it’s a German tradition, but it’s an English tradition or Premier League tradition. We will take it, it’s a nice gesture, 100 per cent. I wouldn’t need it to be honest because we go there to play a football game and I want to win the football game. Don’t celebrate things that happened a week before. But again, it’s a nice gesture but that’s it pretty much.”
