KEY POINTS

  • Dealing damage is more important than getting kills in "Apex Legends"
  • Always work with the squad
  • Movement is the most important skill in the game

With “Apex Legends” Season 9 officially kicking off, there’s no better time to start playing the game. More and more new players are coming to the game, and they might be a bit surprised to find that “Apex” doesn’t play like the rest of the battle royales out there.

The pacing in “Apex Legends” is significantly faster than in games like “PUBG” or “Call Of Duty Warzone.” Even some of the more seasoned “Apex” players still have trouble with performing well in their games, and newbies in particular are expected to lose a lot of their games.

Here are some tips to help new “Apex Legends” players find their footing and start winning more of their matches.

Movement is the key

“Apex Legends” is a game of movement. Every experienced player will advise practicing good movement first before aim practice or character mastery. This is because the time-to-kill values in the game are very high compared to other games, so making the enemy miss their shots can be the difference between life and death.

Always be unpredictable when in a gunfight. Erratic strafing, spontaneous sliding, jumping and crouch spamming are all important skills to master.

Choose your Legend

It might be tempting to play every character in the game, but for new players, it’s best to stick with one or two Legends first. This will let players familiarize themselves with the nuances of their chosen character and find a playstyle that suits them best.

Bangalore is a great choice for beginners because of her movement speed passive when being shot and her smokes are useful in almost every situation.

Warm-up before every session

The Firing Range lets players practice with every weapon in the game. Grab a gun and just start firing at the stationary dummies in front of each weapon station.

A good warm-up exercise is to get an R-99 SMG with a gold Extended Light Magazine. Stand beside the Light Ammo piles then start shooting at the target dummy while strafing erratically. The goal is to destroy the dummy with just one R-99 magazine. This exercise will help improve both strafing and aim tracking and will help develop muscle memory and recoil control.

Prioritize damage over kills

The game’s high TTK values mean most enemies won’t die in one or two magazines, so it’s best to whittle down their health and shields instead. When engaging, focus on getting at least three to four good hits unless opponents are stuck in very vulnerable positions.

A few good hits can result in a shield crack and force enemies to either heal or retreat out in the open while also making them severely vulnerable to lethal damage.
