Apple iMac Pro 2017: New macOS Computer To Arrive Next Week
Apple’s first batch of iMac Pro shipments won’t make it on Christmas day, but the devices will surely arrive to customers days before New Year’s Day. There’s now information on the estimated arrival date of the new macOS computers, and it looks like the devices will reach their destinations late next week.
On Thursday, Apple Insider reported that it’s now only a matter of days until consumers get their hands on their preordered iMac Pro devices. For the U.S., the first shipments are expected to arrive on Dec. 27, Wednesday. On the other hand, the estimated date of arrival of the shipments in China is on Dec. 28, Thursday.
Apple’s second biggest market will have to wait a day longer because the $4,999 worth iMac Pro computers are currently stuck in Shanghai. Sources say Apple is still waiting the “final release” order from a clearing agency. It wasn’t clear if a delay in the order would also extend the estimated arrival date of the computers.
Previous reports said that the new all-in-one desktops could start showing up in Apple’s retail stores this week. Unfortunately, no inventory was listed available at the biggest Apple stores as of today. Apple has yet to address this, so it’s still unknown on when can consumers purchase the new iMac Pro from Apple’s physical stores.
After introducing the new workstation class machine at the Worldwide Developers Conference this past June, the Cupertino giant made the device available for purchase on Dec. 14. The company has since announced that the first batch of preordered iMac Pros is set to arrive to customers on Dec. 27.
The new iMac Pro features a 27-inch Retina 5K display, a new Space Gray finish and a processor with 8- to 18-core configurations. It has one terabyte of storage, but users could extend the storage space to four terabytes. In addition, the new macOS machine houses a new dual centrifugal fan system that promotes better airflow, according to Time.
The 2017 iMac Pro also houses 128GB of ECC RAM and a Radeon Pro Vega 64 graphics card with 16GB of HBM2 memory. It also has four Thunderbolt 3 ports, so it can drive multiple 5K displays at once.
It’s important to note that more powerful configurations of the 2017 iMac Pro won’t start shipping until early 2018. Also, while the base model costs $4,999, the top-of-the-line version with all of the highest specs is valued at $13,199, as per Fortune.
