Apple iPhone Rumors: iPhone SE2 Will Reportedly Release In March 2018
Apple will release next year a second version of the iPhone SE, the iPhone SE2, according to China’s Economic Daily News [via MacRumors ].
The report comes after previous rumors also claimed the iPhone SE2 will be released. The iPhone would follow the recently released iPhone X, as well as the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which were launched in September.
The report said the upcoming device will be exclusively manufactured by Wintron in Bangalore, India and will be released worldwide. The iPhone will reportedly hit stores in the first quarter, which would echo the March 2016 launch date of the first iPhone SE.
The report did not offer details about features the iPhone SE2 will have, but previous rumors have said the new version will sport a 4-inch screen with Touch ID and may come in 32GB or 128GB models. The iPhone SE2 could also come with an upgraded A10 chip, like the one found in the iPhone 7. Meanwhile, Indian site Tekz24 said in August the iPhoneSE2 will come with a 12MP camera and 5MP front camera, as well as a 1700 mAh battery, which is a bit higher than the 1640 mAh battery found in current models. The smartphone could also include slightly thinner bezels, the site said.
The device is expected to cost about $450, much cheaper than the $999 iPhone X. The low price will cater to those who can’t afford the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. The iPhone SE was intended to be an affordable handset, primarily targeting India. It’s also a good option for those who don’t like bigger iPhones.
Besides the iPhone SE2, Apple is expected to release its 2018 lineup next September. Next year’s iPhones will reportedly include similar features the iPhone X has and for lower prices. Macotakara, a Japanese site, predicts a $90 decrease with the new 2018 models, which is the usual price deduction with year-over-year upgrades.
The iPhone X features the Face ID, Animoji and an edge-to-edge Super Retina display with OLED technology without the Touch ID button. Next year’s models are reportedly codenamed “Lisbon” and “Hangzhou.” Apple will reportedly focus on their supply and on releasing the devices on time. However, that doesn’t mean Apple won’t add any improvements to the iPhones.
Besides the release of the iPhone SE2 in March, Apple is also expected to r elease the HomePod next year. Apple revealed the HomePod at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June and had said it would launch in December, but this week the company said that won’t be the case anymore. Apple said they will “start shipping in the US, UK and Australia in early 2018.”
While preparations for the iPhone SE2 reportedly take place, Apple has released a holiday gift guide. The company is pushing its iPhone X and iPhone 8. The 64GB iPhone X model and the $1,149 256GB version. The iPhone X starts at $999 for the 64GB model and $1,149 for the 256GB version.
