KEY POINTS
- Apple Watch Series 7 is expected to launch in September
- It could feature an upgraded technology that provides bigger internal space
- The new model will come with a flat-edged design and thinner display bezel
Apple's series 7 watch is likely to come with a double-sided System in Package (SiP) and feature a smaller S7 chip. The upcoming smartwatch will also have a thinner display bezel.
The tech giant is currently working on its next generation of smartwatches, WCCFtech reported. The device will come with a double-sided chip technology from Apple's Taiwanese supplier ASE Technology.
ASE Technology confirmed that its double-sided SiP technology will pave the way for the S7 chip by module miniaturization, MacRumors reported. The upcoming model, expected to be released in September 2021, will also provide more space to fit a larger battery or other components.
Apple information leaker Jon Prosser suggested that the company will release the Apple Watch Series 7 with a thinner display bezel, giving users a better view of their smartwatch. The S7 watch will come with a flat-edged design and will add green to the list of its color options, he added, according to MacRumors.
The new watch could also come with an overhauled design, bringing it closer to the iPhone lineup’s boxier look and feel, the WCCFtech report said.
Previous reports have also suggested that Apple will bring the display closer to the front cover on its upcoming smartwatch, thanks to a new lamination technique. It will also be slightly thicker than previous models although the difference will not be noticeable to users, according to Bloomberg.
The Apple Watch Series 7 will also feature an underlying technology similar to Apple AirTag’s item finder. The new wearable device will come with updated ultra-wideband functionality.
Rumors had also surfaced about the upcoming Apple smartwatch having some added health features of blood glucose monitoring and body temperature detection. However, MacRumors suggests that these health features are less likely to be ready for the 2021 model.
Earlier, it was reported that Apple's next flagship smartphone, the iPhone 13, could offer a choice of seven models and all of these models might have no buttons.
