  • Apple is running a new promotion for Heart Month
  • The promotion increases the trade-in values of the Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 3 to $100
  • This can be used to lower the prices of Apple Series 5 models

February is heart month, and Apple is offering increased values for those who want to trade-in an older Apple Watch for the company's latest health-centric and heart monitoring wearable, the Apple Watch Series 5.

As spotted by MacRumors over on Apple's website, the Cupertino tech giant is currently running a promo that will reward Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 3 users up to $100 worth of credit if they trade-in their wearables when purchasing an Apple Watch Series 5 model.

Apple has decided to significantly increase the trade-in values of the Series 2 and Series 3 models for this month. Before the promo started, Apple only offered a maximum of $60 for a Series 2 and $70 for the Series 3. This new promo added up to $40 worth of trade-in value, depending on the device.

Trade-in values for Series 4 models, however, are also capped at $100.

How it works

Here's how the process works. First, interested Series 2 and Series 3 owners looking to upgrade to a Series 5 model will have to order one via Apple's Online Store. While purchasing, consumers must indicate that they will trade-in an Apple Watch Series 2 or Series 3 model.

Once the purchase is complete, Apple will send a trade-in kit for the old device to be surrendered. Payment will not begin until the buyer sends the old device to Apple, which will then inspect every surrendered Series 2 and Series 3 model to see if they are in good, working condition. Not all Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 3 units are automatically eligible for the $100 trade-in value.

Once the old Apple Watch is verified, Apple will start crediting the buyer's payment method. The $100 trade-in value will be provided in the form of a refund to the Series 5 model's purchase price.

Price Slash

This promo means that for Heart Month, the Series 5 can be purchased starting at $299 for the basic model (a 40mm aluminum GPS-only model). The trade-in promo can also be used to slash $100 off the regular price of more expensive Series 5 models – like a 44mm GPS + Cellular model with White Ceramic Case and Space Black Link Bracelet. This model costs an eye-watering $1,749.
