Apple Watch Series 2 Replacement: First-Gen Owners Qualify For Rumored Repair Option
Apple is currently offering an Apple Watch Series 2 replacement for people asking to get their first generation smart watches fixed. To avail this offer, users will reportedly need to have their first-gen watch fixed and opt for this. Here’s what we know about this offer.
According to Macrumors, Apple has released some internal news that authorized Apple stores to offer first-gen Apple Watch owners with the Series 2 version as replacement. The exact model that’ll replace the first-gen Apple Watch will be the 42mm Apple watch Series 2. The source document of this announcement only mentions this specific Series 2 watch and not the Series 2, Series 3, Series 4 or smaller models as a possible replacement for a first-gen Apple Watch. However, it’s important to note that Macrumors got this through a leak from a source they chose not to name, which leaves users to try and see if they’ll actually be offered with the new watch.
Apparently, this move from Apple happened as there is a part shortage for Series 0. Fixing the first generation would be difficult for the company so it will be offering the Apple Watch Series 2 instead. Moreover, this offer will reportedly only last this February up until April this year.
As of now, the Apple Watch Series 2 is at least 2 years old now. Since the Series 2’s introduction, the Apple Watch has been noted to have great waterproofing and is suitable for water sports like surfing and swimming. Speculations have been circling about the next Apple AirPods wireless headphones having some waterproof features too.
Lastly, the said internal document was sent out to stores in the United States and other countries. To know if this promo is offered at your local Apple store, it might be best to approach them for the repair of a first-generation Apple Watch and see if they will repair or replace it for you. Their online Apple support site is also available if you want to confirm if this promo is ongoing.
