Apple Watches
The Apple Watch will just keep getting better. Apple

Apple recently released WatchOS 6 which brings a slew of new and interesting features to the Apple Watch. Those who use the Apple Watch Series 5 already have this WatchOS version preinstalled and will be able to use the new features out of the box. Those who use older Apple Watch models, on the other hand, need to update to access them.

What are the features that come with WatchOS 6? Here's a quick view at some of the new features Apple Watch Series 5 owners, as well as those who updated to the latest WatchOS version, can use.

Noise app

The Noise app monitors – as the name states – noise levels in the surroundings, then alerts the user if the noise is too loud for their own good. Alerts will start appearing when the noise level reaches 80 decibels and beyond.

For reference, gas-powered lawnmowers and leaf blowers reach 80 to 85 decibels during use, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted. Spending 2 hours in environments with this kind of noise can cause possible hearing damage.

App Store

Finally, the Apple Watch now has its own App Store on WatchOS 6. Users can now download apps directly to the watch with no need for the iPhone.

Cycle Tracking

The dedicated Cycle Tracking app literally keeps track of a woman's menstrual cycle. This app will send users alerts and reminders telling them to keep watch of their monthly period. Those who don't need the app can simply delete it.

Voice Memo

WatchOS 6 adds a new Voice Memo app to the Apple Watch. Users can now record audio by launching the app and tapping the record button, or by telling Siri to “record a voice memo.” This will be useful in classroom settings, when recording conversations, or to record spur-of-the-moment ideas that tend to be forgotten quickly.

Calculator

The Apple Watch can now be used as a calculator. A “Tip” button also helps to determine how much to give to a waiter or waitress in a restaurant.

Shazam

Siri can now be asked “what song is this?” to identify a song, and then add that song to the Apple Music library, CNet noted.
