A new Apple patent reveals that the company is looking into changing the design of the next Apple Watch for user's convenience. Apple

Apple caused a bit of confusion when it unveiled the new Apple Watch Series 5 models, saying the titanium models are lighter than the ones that come in stainless steel, but incorrectly listing their weights on a website.

MacRumors reported that Apple has since fixed that mistake and revealed that the new titanium models are indeed lighter than the stainless steel models. The titanium casing also weighs less compared to the white colored ceramic casing.`

“Only found in the most exclusive watches, titanium is exceptionally strong, lightweight, and beautiful,” Apple said in its website.

The titanium Series 5 models weigh 13 percent lighter than their stainless steel counterparts. The 40mm and 44mm titanium models weigh 35.1 and 41.7 grams respectively. Te 40mm and 44mm stainless steel models, on the other hand, weight 40.6 and 47.8 grams respectively.

The titanium models are also lighter compared to the ceramic models. The 40mm and 44mm ceramic Series 5 models weight 39.7 and 46.7 grams respectively - a 4.6 and 5-gram weight difference.

As expected, the titanium models are generally heavier than the aluminum models, the 40mm and 44mm models of which weigh 30.8 and 36.5 grams respectively. Aluminum still is the lightest and cheapest option, but it doesn’t have the refined look of stainless steel, titanium or ceramic.

The weights vary greatly when the sizes are factored in. A 40mm casing will always be lighter than a 44mm model, regardless of the material used. The small differences in number may not seem that much on paper, but it does matter when the devices are worn.

Finish

Apple proudly states that it used a specially developed surface coating on the titanium Series 5 models. This coating will prevent the material from turning yellow, getting stains, and also prevents fingerprint marks.

Additionally, the Cupertino tech giant states that the Space Black titanium model is made using the same DLC process it uses on stainless steel models. This results in giving the Space Black titanium version a “truly gorgeous finish.” Those who buy the new Apple Watch Series 5 in titanium will receive an extra Sport Band for free.
