Are Brandy And Monica Still Beefing? ‘So Gone’ Singer Responds To Brandy’s Cryptic Soul Train Awards Diss
Apparently, Brandy Norwood and Monica Brown’s feud is still going strong. The two singers have been in an on and off beef since the ‘90s, but recently the drama between them has resurfaced with the latest dagger being thrown by Brandy during her Soul Train Awards performance.
On Sunday, Brandy took to the stage at the awards show to perform a medley of her greatest hits while being recognized as the Lady Of Soul Honoree. According to several sites, during a performance of “Talk About Our Love” Brandy changed some of the words in the song to take a few jabs at her friend-turned-enemy-turned-friend-turned-enemy Monica.
The Shade Room reported that at one point during the performance, Brandy sang: “I know somebody’s lying. It’s always something. Talking ish again then your whole fan base jumps in. Now the whole ‘Gram’s buzzing.” You can watch her supposed jab at Monica below.
LoveBScott.com reported that Monica responded to Brandy’s performance telling a fan on Instagram that she respects Brandy. “It’s disappointing to leave ICU and come to my page to see the foolishness of the 90s ever so present amongst BOTH groups. I will forever respect the legend she is & the history we created,” she posted. “All of you guys do the same. She’s a vocal beast and we’re both great in our own right!! This is her moment. She earned it and deserves it. No mention or @ of my name needed !!”
According to Wetpaint, the drama between Brandy and Monica started back up again after a fan asked the “I Wanna Be Down” singer to participate in the #SoGoneChallenge, in which a person raps over Monica’s song “So Gone.” Brandy responded to the fan, writing “chile bye.”
Not long after Brandy’s social media shade, Monica appeared on “The Real” telling the hosts that Brandy’s comment was a “test from God.” She explained: “It was just a test for me to always take the high road.” Brandy responded by posting on Instagram that she knows “THEREALStory” and a person shouldn’t fake positivity.
