There has been a lot of drama on “Sister Wives” surrounding whether or not the Brown family would all move into one home that was built on Coyote Pass or continue living in separate spaces on the property. Now, after initially expressing she liked the one house idea, Meri Brown’s comments explaining why she would rather live separately have some wondering if she and Kody are still experiencing big issues in their marriage.

During the Feb. 16 episode of the TLC show, Kody sat down with his wives—Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn—one more time to really hash out what their future held when it came to potentially all living together in one home again or not. During this discussion, however, Meri’s feelings about the idea, which initially saw her being at least a little bit supportive of it, surfaced during an interview with producers. Shockingly, she admitted she actually preferred not living in the same house as her sister wives because she and Kody still weren’t back to where they had been in the past when it came to their somewhat fractured romantic relationship.

“[My reason] is more directly related to my relationship with Kody,” she said. “It’s different than I want it to be at this point. It’s easier for me to avoid. I just think it would make it difficult to be in one home for me right now—just because of that.”

The pair have been dealing with problems in their marriage for years after Meri got caught in a cat-fishing scandal, which came after the couple legally divorced in 2014 so he could be legally wed to Robyn and officially adopt her children. Since then, fans have watched as the pair’s relationship has seemed to continue suffering consequences.

In fact, their troubles were even teased when a trailer for the show’s new season debuted in December 2019. During the clip, the pair attended a therapy session following their move to Flagstaff which showed they still weren’t on the same page with their marriage. Kody claims that Meri makes herself into a victim whenever he is honest with her about his feelings, and as a result, the two don’t really act like a married couple any longer. The tension from their issues also appeared to spill over during a conversation he has with Robyn later on as well, as he accuses Meri of making Robyn suffer from her issues as well.

Of course, the show’s episodes were filmed in early 2019, so the couple may have worked through their problems between now and then, meaning things are back on track, but Meri did take to Twitter to slam her husband during the most recent episode as well, calling him out for always grouping his wives together into a bundle when he discusses their thoughts about something. The move quickly led to Kody making an apology tweet of his own.

“Sister Wives” airs Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on TLC.
