‘Are You The One?’ Season 6 Cast Questions MTV’s Matchmakers
Following part one of the “Are You the One?” Season 6 reunion special Wednesday night, several MTV stars appeared on AfterBuzz TV to talk about the latest cast drama.
When the topic turned to the surprise matches of the season, the cast had a lot to say about MTV’s matchmakers and the matchmaking process.
“I just wish the matchmakers, or whoever put us together as matches, would at least give us two or three sentence explanations of each match because a lot of them don’t make sense,” Evan said. “It’s like they just ‘Here are the matches now I’m going to run away.’ Who are those people. Who put us together?”
Ethan, who as matched with Zoe, said he considered it the “biggest present” that MTV’s matchmakers placed him with her. Still, Zoe has since revealed she just wants to be friends with Ethan. It doesn’t appear Ethan is ready to give up just yet, though.
“I think it’s going great,” Ethan quipped of their online flirting, stating he would still like to try a romance with his perfect match.
Audrey admitted she was also confused by at least one of the pairings this seasons, Anthony and Alexis. Despite having Keith use his statistics background to figure out the 11 perfect matches in the final hour, Audrey admitted she was “nervous” about their final matchup ceremony lineup.
“They were the only couple I think out of all the beams that didn’t sit together,” Keith explained of his strategy. “They were the only couple that had never sat together.”
Still, not every cast member was confused about which co-star MTV’s matchmakers chose for them. “It’s not someone I usually go for. Once I figured it out, it made sense,” Keith said of his perfect match Jada.
Joe, who as paired with Uche, also said he thinks the matchmakers got it right, calling his match the “least surprising” one of the entire season.
“They really didn’t show Uche and me talking all that much but she literally is what I need,” Joe said. “She was super loyal and trusting and basically everything I’ve never had.” Joe went on to hint that Uche and Clinton are still together but said if they were not, would like to take a shot with Uche post-show.
MTV has never revealed the true formula for figuring out each season’s perfect matches, though former “AYTO?” host Ryan Devlin did tell International Business Times in January that it’s a very complicated process that includes a months-long audition process, personality tests, mathematicians and matchmaking professionals.
“It’s really extensive. Our show lives and dies on its ability to bring together people who are truly looking to make a connection and who are really giving themselves over to the process,” Devlin told IBT.
“It’s basically a really well-thought-out marriage between data and experience between our professional matchmakers to find these people who are seeking and who have a perfect match.”
