Armenian-Americans are part of a glittering diaspora
Kim Kardashian, the American TV reality show star and all-around “celebrity” recently made the news for an unusually serious reason – she objected to her photo being used on the cover of an edition of Cosmopolitan magazine that was to appear in Turkey.
Ms. Kardashian is of Armenian descent (on her father’s side) and apparently she is well aware of the grim history of her ancestors and their antipathy towards the Turks.
During World War I, anywhere from 1.5-million to 2-million Armenians were massacred by Turks in what has come to be known as the “Armenian Genocide.”
Adolf Hitler was reported to have used the Armenian catastrophe as his Blueprint for his plan to exterminate the Jews of Europe.
For the past 90 years, the Armenian Diaspora around the world has campaigned for official recognition of this holocaust by the Turkish state, but Ankara has refused, the official Turkish line has been that the Armenians died as a result of civil war, disease and famine.
Armenians have spread across the world and a great many now live in the Unites States, particularly southern California.
