Ashley Judd Nears Full Recovery After Hiking Accident In Congo Rainforest
KEY POINTS
- Ashley Judd watched a baseball game in Boston
- She came to the game without crutches
- The accident had happened in the Congolese rainforest
It looks like actress Ashley Judd is recovering well from a leg injury she suffered seven months ago while hiking in the Congolese rainforest.
In what was her first public appearance since the accident, Judd had ditched the crutches, and was wearing only a brace on her right leg at a Red Sox game in Fenway Park in Boston. To commemorate the evening, the “Good Kids” actress had posted images and videos on Instagram on Tuesday.
“It was so refreshing to take a summer evening’s pause from the troubles of the word to engage in #americaspasttime at the iconic and nostalgic @fenwaypark to see the @redsoxplay #baseball. I grew up with the game - my Papaw Judd coached Little League. My dad was a tremendous player and I have all his newspaper clippings. With my Papaw Ciminella, I listened to the #cincinattireds on his transistor radio while reading the previous game’s box score in the Ashland, KY newspaper,” Judd captioned her post.
“Here I am inside the #greenmonster where I was stunned to see scratches on the wall where someone kept track of #tedwilliams home runs….so very cool! Thank you, #redsox for helping us make some very special family memories!,” she continued.
Judd was accompanied to the game by her father, and her partner, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The 53-year-old actress’ appearance comes months after the accident in February, where she suffered a “massive catastrophic” injury on her right leg while visiting the Congolese rainforest with a group of researchers who were studying an endangered species of apes.
"There was a fallen tree on the path which I didn't see and I had a very powerful stride going and I just fell over this tree and as I was breaking my leg, I knew it was being broken…I knew, Nick, the DNA of what an evacuation from the rainforest entails it was kind of deep in my unconscious," she said in an Instagram live chat with The New York Times' Nicholas Kristof in February.
Early in August, Judd showed her fans she was doing well by posting a video of her trekking in the Swiss Mountains.
"Today, five months and three weeks after the accident in the Congolese rainforest, I walked again, and in what fashion! I hiked in the #SwissNationalPark . Stepping in, I felt in my ease, my natural garment of self, at home in my spirit. My leg and foot, worked beautifully," she wrote.
