Australian Senator Claims Man Died Because Of COVID-19 Vaccine; Family Denies
KEY POINTS
- An Australian senator claimed a father who died in December last year was a "victim" of COVID-19 vaccine injuries
- The information was "entirely untrue" and "used without prior approval," according to the deceased man's family
- Authorities have yet to determine the man's cause of death
The family of an Australian man who died in his sleep late last year was left "devastated" after a politician claimed the death was caused by the COVID-19 vaccine, according to reports.
Daniel Perkins died at his New South Wales home in December 2021 with no sign of illness, 7News.com.au reported.
The father-of-two, among others, was a "victim" of COVID-19 vaccine injuries that were "hidden behind anonymous government data," Australian Senator Malcolm Roberts, of the right-wing One Nation party, claimed in a speech to parliament Tuesday.
"A 36-year-old healthy father from Albion Park died of a heart attack in his sleep following his second Pfizer injection," Roberts said in reference to Perkins.
However, Perkins' family is unaware of any evidence that proves the vaccine played a role in the death.
They were told that Perkins had an "enlarged heart" at the time he died, but a definitive cause of death would require an investigation by the coroner.
The final postmortem results are still pending, according to the report.
"For a politician to comment on something when it’s still under investigation is just absurd," Shane Andersen, the brother of Perkins' wife, Nikki, was quoted as saying by 7News.
"[T]here’s been no information given to the family that would even suggest that is the case, and to be used in federal parliament as a pinboard is just disgraceful," Perkins' brother-in-law explained.
The family, which was "totally gutted" over the incident, claimed Roberts' information was not just "entirely untrue," but also "used without prior approval," according to Andersen.
"My sister had no one ring her up and ask for any of that kind of information, or even whether that was the case," he said.
Nikki was reportedly left "devastated" from seeing her partner's death being used in this way.
"The frustration and anger that I had this morning just knocks you off your feet a bit because you think, how dare you? How dare you bring my brother’s name into it at such a terrible time in our life," Andersen said.
An apology from Roberts "would be very much appreciated," the brother-in-law added.
Perkins is survived by Nikki and their two 8-year-old sons, Logan and Jordi.
Australia has reported a total of 4,326,841 COVID-19 cases and 5,994 virus-related deaths, according to publicly available government data.
The CDC maintains that COVID-19 vaccines are "safe and effective" and that "serious safety problems are rare."
