‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Star Sebastian Stan Reveals What Marvel Set Is Like
“Avengers: Infinity War” is sure to get Marvel fans’ hearts pounding, but for Winter Soldier actor Sebastian Stan, filming is a much more easygoing experience.
Stan, who was promoting his new film “I, Tonya,” told Collider that the vibe on the “Infinity War” set is pretty laid back compared to previous films. He thinks part of that is the experience of directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who also directed the last two “Captain America” films.
“It’s actually kind of loose and relaxed,” Stan explained. “You’re always kind of like, oh so-and-so just walked by. It’s always kind of like a double take, but generally, I think everyone’s just having a good time. And the Russos are leading that ship. They know what they want. Everything is prepared; nothing is ever really like anxious. It’s all very smooth.”
Stan has to trust the Russos know what they’re doing. After all, he hasn’t seen the complete script for “Avengers: Infinity War” or its untitled sequel, which is filming until December.
“I haven’t read it. I didn’t read a script for the last one,” Stan said. “So I was kind of in the dark which is always O.K. for the Winter Soldier.”
“I think it’s just an element of trust, you know?” the “Logan Lucky” star told Collider. “It’s a family system. And at this point, I feel like between the writers and Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios President] and the Russos, everybody knows very well what I’ll be bringing. And it’s not like I’m just gonna get handed a piece of paper and I’m gonna go in and do the scene. But again, I’ve spent so much time with the character and I’ve spent so much time with them that it’s just very easy to kind of jump in and get right to the chemistry.”
While the set is relaxed, “Avengers: Infinity War” is not going to be a chill movie. The highly anticipated film will be the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. All of the heroes — from the Avengers to Doctor Strange to the Guardians of the Galaxy — will join forces to take on Thanos (Josh Brolin). The father of Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is searching for the Infinity Stones, which will give him the power to destroy the universe.
“I saw the D23 footage, and the D23 footage was insane,” he praised. “Again, I resort back to the same look of bewilderment, but I think they’re gonna be amazing. This thing is going to spill over cities and wastelands and planets and space, and it’s just going to go all over the place.”
It sounds like it could be a deadly movie. While speaking with MTV News, Stan said that he couldn’t worry about the possibility of one day being Captain America. For now, he’s just concerned about surviving.
“We just gotta all survive this war, first of all, and sometime’s it’s questionable. I feel a lot like that Jon Snow character [from “Game of Thrones”]…when there’s that shot of Jon Snow from the back as the horses are charging at him and he’s just standing there, that’s kind of how I feel when I go to set sometimes. Will I make the stampede or not?”
“Avengers: Infinity War” stars Stan, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Tom Holland and more. The film is set to hit theaters May 4, 2018. The sequel will be released May 3, 2019.
