Azzedine Alaia turns down offer to replace John Galliano
Designer Azzedine Alaia was asked by the fashion house, Christian Dior, to take John Galliano's place for the label. However, Alaia turned down the offer because he did not feel that it was right for him.
After is anti-Semitic escapade in a Paris cafe, Galliano was fired from the French fashion house in February. His remarks did not do very well for the image of Dior. Hence, why Dior approached Alaia asking him to replace Galliano. Journalist Vanessa Friedman reported in the Financial Times newspaper: Mr. Alaia wasn't interested. Flattered, but not about to pursue.
Alaia is not the first designer that was asked to replace Galliano. Haider Ackermann, Hedi Slimane, and Head of Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci are some possible options for Dior.
Riccardo Tisci said: I don't know what will happen. Sincerely, I feel sorry for John. But for this moment I am leaving aside all the gossip of 'I am going here, I am going there'... I will tell you, in this moment, I am very happy. It would be very difficult for me to leave.
