A baby boy with two heads and three hands was born in a hospital in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.

Following a sonography, 21-year-old Babita Ahirwa was told by the doctors that she was having twins. However, on Saturday, she gave birth to a baby boy with one heart, two heads, three hands and two palms on one hand. The news spread like wildfire resulting in several people visiting the hospital to see the baby.

“We also have to tackle crowd of people who are coming to see the baby after spread of news,” Dr. Sanjay Khare, civil surgeon of the hospital said.

Meanwhile, the baby was under special observation at the special newborn care unit (SNCU).

“It was a critical operation as we didn’t expect a conjoint baby. This is the first child of the woman, who was married one and a half years ago. After the operation, the family was shocked so we didn’t tell the mother about the conjoint baby,” Dr. Pratibha Oswal said.

Surendra Sonkar, a child specialist of the hospital, said, “We are taking care of baby and will take opinion of expert doctors, who had earlier done the operation of such kids.”

The incident comes months after a woman gave birth to a baby girl with three heads in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The unidentified woman was rushed to a local after she experienced extreme pain. The woman gave birth to a baby girl with three heads, leaving the doctors and family members stunned. Doctors said the baby was suffering from encephaloceles.

"This is a very rare medical condition. The child’s body has not fully developed. We will perform an MRI scan and then perform surgery to separate the ‘heads,’” a doctor had said.
