Backstreet Boys alum AJ McLean detailed his final interaction with Britney Spears Wednesday. While speaking on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, the singer made it clear that he’s “100 percent Team Britney,” calling the “Lucky” singer’s conservatorship “asinine,” “insane,” and “completely brutal.”

AJ told Cohen that he often sees Spears because they’re neighbors and go to the same shopping center in the Los Angeles area. While they don’t usually talk when they bump into each other, he revealed why he found his last interaction with Spears a bit too heartbreaking.

“There’s this amazing cupcake shop that she goes through, that I go,” he told Cohen. “The last time I saw her, it broke my heart. Last time I saw her, she was with a gentleman. I’m assuming it was security or maybe a driver. Went in, she was there, she looked right at me and I was like, ‘Hey, it’s AJ,’” he recalled.

“And she just kind of hand this glass face. Like, she just didn’t know who was there. It took her a minute. And then she realized it was me, and we hugged and we talked for a brief moment, but I could just see that this wasn’t her. Like, I’m not looking at the person I knew from years and years ago,” AJ added.

He also gave his thoughts on Spears’ statement that she’s not allowed to stay in contact with anyone from her AA meetings due to her conservatorship. In her court testimony in June, Spears revealed she was not allowed to see her friends during her AA meetings, which she admitted she found strange.

AJ, who revealed also being part of a sobriety program, said the whole core of AA meetings is fellowship. “We lean on each other, we look up to each other for support and if somebody were to take that from me, it would really be difficult for me to stay sober, honest to god… I just wish that for her, honestly,” he further said.

On his “Pretty Messed Up” podcast Sunday, AJ described Spears as “the sweetest, sweetest girl,” adding he personally does not agree with her conservatorship.
