Bandai Namco Announces June 2 Release Date For 'Tekken 7'
Bandai Namco has announced that “Tekken 7” will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on June 2, 2017. The date is a lot later than the previously promised early 2017 release window.
“Tekken 7” director Katsuhiro Harada explained to the press in Tokyo that the decision was made in order to deliver a full experience to fans. “We were trying to do everything we could to make that date happen… maybe to scale down on the content in order to make the master release,” Harada explained, as per IGN.
“But in the end we came to the decision that [after] seeing releases from other companies, as well as some of the past of our own, where maybe things weren’t working 100% at launch, or maybe it was missing some content, that’s the kind of thing we wanted to avoid with ‘Tekken 7’, so we made a very difficult decision of moving it to June to include all of the original content that we’d originally planned.”
As promised, “Tekken 7” for home consoles and PC will come with all the contents from the game’s latest arcade version, “Fated Retribution.” This includes the various game modes as well as the characters, which should mean that the fighting game’s roster will have more than 30 playable characters.
For those who will pre-order “Tekken 7,” they will also be rewarded with the bonus character Eliza, the vampire character that first debuted in 2013’s “Tekken Revolution” for the PlayStation 3. As for exclusives, those who pre-order the digital version of the game from the Xbox Store will be given a free copy of “Tekken 6.”
Gamers on the PS4, on the other hand, will be treated to some other exclusive content including classic “Tekken 4” and “Tekken 2” costumes for Xiaoyu, King and Jin. The PS4 version of the game also comes with the JukeBox Mode, a feature that allows players to listen and create playlists of music from the “Tekken” franchise.
“Tekken 7” will also be the first in the franchise to have a season pass which will come with three expansion packs, according to Polygon. Bandai Namco hasn’t revealed the release date of the season pass yet, but it will be available on all platforms.
