Former President Barack Obama will turn 55 on Friday and although he has moved out of the White House around seven months ago, people still cherish the beautiful memories of the former POTUS.

The 44th president of the U.S. and the first African-American to serve in the office was born on Aug. 4, 1961, in Honolulu. His first name, Barack, means "blessed" in Swahili and it was also his Kenyan father's name.

Barack became conscious of racism since childhood when he was enrolled in the prestigious Punahou Academy in Honolulu and where he was one of the three black students, according to his biography.

He later described his childhood years in which he was trying to cope up with social perceptions of his multiracial heritage. "I noticed that there was nobody like me in the Sears, Roebuck Christmas catalog that Toot and Gramps sent us, and that Santa was a white man," he wrote.

"I kept these observations to myself, deciding that either my mother didn't’t see them or she was trying to protect me and that I shouldn't’t expose her efforts as having failed.
