Barack Obama has revealed his favorite songs for this year, crediting his daughter, Sasha Obama, for being his music consultant.
On Saturday, the former president took to Instagram and Twitter and shared the tracks that made his favorites list for 2020. The list featured songs from a wide range of artists, including Megan Thee Stallion, Bob Dylan, Travis Scott, Lil Baby, Dua Lipa and many more.
"Here are some of my favorite songs of the year. As usual, I had some valuable consultation from our family music guru, Sasha, to put this together. I hope you find a new song or two to listen to," he wrote.
At the top of Obama's list was Beyoncé and Megan's "Savage Remix," which they dropped in April to help raise money for COVID-19 relief in Houston.
Beyoncé and Megan dedicated the remix to the people of Houston as both hail from the Texas city. They decided to donate their share of proceeds from the song to Bread of Life, a local organization that has been providing meals to those in need since 1992.
Other songs that Obama loved this year include "Levitating" (Dua Lipa, featuring DaBaby) "Love is the King" (Jef Tweedy), "Franchise" (Travis Scott, featuring Young Thug & M.I.A), "NADA" (Lido Pimienta, featuring Li Saumet), "Can't Do Much" (Waxahatchee), "The Bigger Picture" (Lil Baby), "Ghosts" (Bruce Springsteen), "The Climb Back" (J. Cole), "Repeat" (J Hus. Koffee) and "Damage" (H.E.R.).
His playlist also included "Goodbye Jimmy Reed" (Bob Dylan), "Summer 2020" (Jhene Aiko), "Brave" (Ruston Kelly), "Uwrongo" (Prince Kaybee, Shimza Black Motion & Faku), "Better Distractions" (Faye Webster), "Lemondate" (Internet Money, featuring Don Toliver, Gunna & NAV), "Starting Over" (Chris Stapleton), "Kyoto" (Phoebe Bridgers) and "Distance" (Yebba).
Netizens had mixed opinions about Obama's favorite songs. Many loved his choices, while some thought sharing the list during this time was insensitive.
"SAVAGE REMIX??? YES OBAMA," one commented on Instagram.
"As usual, you have such good taste sir," another added.
"Is Obama serious? When Rome is burning, is it important to put together a list of your favorite music? What's happening?" one user wrote on Twitter, to which another replied, "He’s just an average citizen, how do you want him to spend his time?"
In August, Obama also shared his 2020 summer playlist, which featured songs from Billie Eilish, Beyoncé, Megan and more.
